The map was commissioned as for the Mac in Birmingham, to design a map appropriate for children that is interactive and engaging as well clear for adults making it easy to navigate around the venue.
The film festival required an interactive booklet map for children. The client proposed that the interactive element would be stamp collecting through the different sections of the building and requested the map encourage adventure.

The designs were to be kept to A5 and was to include stickers. The research began by visiting and exploring the layout of the venue, to develop an accurate map. Experimenting with the different elements, how they work together and match while keeping it simple for children with significant locations pinpointed was a very important part of the process. An exciting font cover was important to appeal to children and so the use of logos and colours was another focus in the development stage.

The Map came together using a combination of hand draw elements, illustrator and photoshop. It became a small fold passport that opens as a map. The interactive quality were stickers designed to be collected at each location. This also useful for the parents to maintain their children’s attention, provided a fun activity for them to do together and helped all explore the venue with the help of a simple and clear map.
